English is below
Nachi Falls for Emperor Uda English is below
The hanging scroll at the back of this room is of Emperor Uda. On his first visit to Kumano, the roads had not yet been developed, so he traveled from Kirime to Shingu by boat. There are records of him visiting Kumano Hayatama Taisha and Kumano Hongu Taisha during that visit, but there is no record of him visiting Kumano Nachi Taisha. However, it is believed that he saw Nachi Falls from the boat on the way there and back, so we donated it and exhibited it here so that he can get a good look at the falls.
